Both species are vicious predators and known to attack birds larger than themselves. Both are known to hung their prey on a thorn for later consumption.

For the first time I witnessed a Loggerhead Shrike catching a dragonfly in a field and immediately flew to a barbed wire fence and impaled it. I was not quick enough to photograph it in action. Shrike lost the catch at first then he went down to pick it up and the second try was good enough. Very cool.
