 Both species are vicious predators and known to attack birds larger than themselves. Both are known to hung their prey on a thorn for later consumption.

日米種とも自分より大きな鳥でも襲ってしまう獰猛な性格。また、どちらも食べきれなかった獲物は木の枝やトゲに突き刺して保存する習性がある。

 Impaled Dragonfly 

トンボを串刺しするモズを目撃

 For the first time I witnessed a Loggerhead Shrike catching a dragonfly in a field and immediately flew to a barbed wire fence and impaled it.  I was not quick enough to photograph it in action.  Shrike lost the catch at first then he went down to pick it up and the second try was good enough. Very cool.
